Vibe Project

  •

The idea to develop this project born by the collaboration started in the past and ongoing by the project leader Atlante (IT) and the Istituto dei Ciechi di Milano(IT) and the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation (USA).

The challenge at the basis of the project idea is how to apply the tactile models methods of artworks of abstract artists as Josef and Anni Albers. The idea sounded as innovative, because, normally, the most experiences with blind and visually impaired people and art were mainly focused on the figurative and sculptural arts. Furthermore to this basic idea, it was added the availability of the same sensorial experience for seeing people, to offer them a radical different modality of fruition of art, using the same arrangements developed for blind and visually impaired people and a dark corridor where hosting the sensorial experience for seeing people.

The partners decided to apply to the Creative Europe Programme to find a support to transform this concept in a feasible project and develop and experiment the idea at its basis in the framework of a transnational cooperation.

The Josef and Anni Albers Foundation was fully engaged in VIBE project and will make at disposal for the project some Josef and Anni Albers’ artworks for free, even if it doesn’t take part to project as a partner. The artworks put at disposal for the project will be around 50.

On these basis a draft of project has been realized and another partner joined in the consortium, The Glucksman, University College Cork (IRL).

The Istituto dei Ciechi di Milano will provide the tactile models and its expertise to project.

The other partners Atlante, The Glucksmanand Muzej suvremene umjetnosti Zagreb will host the exhibitions of Albers artworks, with the tactile models and the other collateral activities.

Funkcionalni primjer privremene izložbe u kojoj mogu uživati slijepi i slabovidni posjetitelji

VIBE (Voyage Inside a Blind Experience) je projekt sufinanciran od strane Kreativne Europe, programa Europske unije 2014. – 2020.

Dodatni aspekt zajedništva i inkluzivnosti biti će ostvaren kroz zajedničko kretanje u prostoru i istodobno sudjelovanje videćih i slijepih i slabovidnih osoba.

VIBE, Voyage Inside a Blind Experience is a project co-funded by Creative Europe, a program of the European Union 2014-2020. It has the aim of creating a model for a temporary art exhibition, that can be reproduced and that will have an equal interest both for seeing and for visually impaired people. The artistic project has developed from a collaboration between Atlante Servizi Culturali and the American institution The Josef and Anni Albers Foundation, to which the scientific validation of the Istituto dei Ciechi di Milano was added as well as the support of three European museum institutions, making it possible to examine the abstract works of Josef and Anni Albers using an experiential method that can be applied to various needs.

For visitors with visual disabilities, a didactic approach is usually chosen, helping them to recognize artworks by tracing compositional lines using touch. All this is absolutely necessary, but by exploring the potentials of those same lines, freed from a merely figurative approach and developing a compositional and stylistic understanding, whit a little help, it is possible, to come near to an experience that can be called aesthetic. This experience will be accompanied by multisensory criteria and the staff will be trained in the fields of design and management of inclusive visits. In this sense, each visitor will be introduced to an exploration of the work that goes beyond the usual visual or didactic approach.

It will also be possible to experience darkness through the creation of a dark room that will allow for sensitive, cognitive and parallel exercises. Then there will be the aspect of sharing spaces dedicated to art and the development of participated sensibility: all the visitors will be able to move around and enjoy the place at the same time. The human and emotional interactions that derive from this will be one of the main elements of this project.
